Karachi: Umar Akmal in a formal statement before the disciplinary committee, formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has admitted that reaching out to media was not an apt move on his part.
The PCB constituted a three-member committee consist of director cricket operations Haroon Rasheed, director of media Amjad Bhatti and the general manager legal affairs, Salman Naseer to look into the breaches by Umar Akmal.
A source privy to the development said that the committee had compiled its findings and now the PCB chairman would decide on the matter.
“The committee’s mandate was only to look into the contractual breaches from Umar Akmal by hitting the media without prior permission”, the source said
“Umar Akmal has admitted that he reached out to the media in the heat of the moment, which he should not have done”, the source added.
On a question the source said that Umar Akmal’s accusations on the head coach were a separate subject and an additional probe into that matter could come in the later stage.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued show-cause notice to Umar Akmal after the right-handed batsman accused the head coach, Mickey Arthur of using foul language, before the press.
The PCB was of the view that Umar Akmal breached clauses of his player’s contract which bars any player from talking to the media without prior permission from the relevant authorities.
