Multan: Rilee Rossouw’s 43-ball century – the fastest in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history – earned Multan Sultans the upper hand against Quetta Gladiators even after the first half of the PSL5 game here on Saturday.
Batting first, Multan were 64 for 3 in the first 10 overs but the eventual man-of-the-match, Rossouw along with captain Shan Masood turned the tables for the home side, hammering ten fours and six sixes for his unbeaten 100. Masood was a perfect foil with a 32-ball 46 and Quetta were given a stiff 200-run target to chase.
The reigning champions started off brilliantly with Roy and Watson however couldn’t live up to the expectations later. Watson, with 80 off 41 balls, turned out to be the lone warrior as Gladiators managed 169/7 in 20 overs.
With the third consecutive triumph, Multan Sultans further consolidated their position at the top of the chart with eight points in five games.
The second match of the day, between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad was called off due to persistent rain in Rawalpindi. Both teams bagged one point each.
After five games each Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi are on second, third and fourth position respectively.
