Karachi: Glittering ceremony was organised by the PSL franchise, Quetta Gladiators’ owner Omar Associates, to acknowledge the Pakistan cricket team which won the champions trophy in England last month.
Four of Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad members, skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Rumman Raees were presented with gold medallions and cash awards during the function held at a local hotel here on Monday.
Squash legend Jahangir Khan was the chief guest while other notable personalities included the Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair, former captains Younis Khan, Rashid Latif and Wasim Bari ex Test Cricketer Shoaib Muhammad, Rashid Khan, Nadeem Khan, representatives of the sponsors besides some prominent political figures.
Recently retired Pakistan batting great Younis Khan was decorated with a gold medal and a cash award for his outstanding services for the game.
The organiser of the event and the owner of Quetta Gladiator and managing director, Nadeem Omar, on the occasion, said that the ceremony was just a small gesture to recognise the outstanding achievement of the Pakistan team.
Captain Sarfraz Ahmed, in his address, thanked Nadeem Omar and Azam Khan, secretary of KCCA Zone-VI’s Pakistan Cricket Club, for playing a huge role in building his cricketing career.
Both Nadeem and Azam have been the real inspiration who were instrumental in the development years of my career.
Sarfraz further said the expectations are even higher now, hoping that his team would live up to nation’s anticipation in future.
The Chief Guest, Jahangir Khan shared his experience with the audience and urged the young players to work hard every day to excel.
Younis Khan, on the occasion, said he wants his son to play squash and bring laurels to the country like Jahangir Khan.
The legendary batsman also informed the audience about his daughter’s love for cricket, vowing to extend his full support to her if she chooses to play cricket professionally.
Hassan Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Rumman Raees also shared their Champions Trophy experiences.
In the end, the governor of Sindh Muhammad Zubair revealed that he had done cricket commentary as well. He showered rich praise on the CT winning national team.
