Karachi Hotel fire prompts Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match cancellation

Karachi: A massive fire ripped through the Regent Plaza Hotel early Monday morning, killing at least 11 people and injuring over 70. Most of the victims had suffered from smoke inhalation or suffocation.

 

Those injured include three players of the United Bank Limited (UBL) cricket team. Yasin Murtaza jumped off the 2nd floor of building after the incident, fracturing his ankle while Aadil Raza and Karamat Ali also received minor injuries.

 

Pakistan internationals Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Amin were also present at the hotel however escaped unhurt.

 

Upon the request of the UBL manager, Nadeem Khan the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) abandoned the super-eight round match of the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam trophy between UBL and HBL.

 

“The UBL manager made a request to the PCB to abandon the match as the players are not in a condition to resume the match”, PCB statement said

 

“The domestic committee has accepted the request and therefore both teams are awarded one point each for no result”, PCB statement said
