There was a general myth in PCB that it would be dysfunctional if he was removed. Former chairman PCB Lt-Gen (retd.) Tauqir Zia once said that when he joined the Board he came to know that only two officials had track of every important file of the Board. Burly Ijaz Butt had given him double promotion, unprecedented in the history of the Board.
Yes, Subhan Ahmad is no more in the PCB. The governing board of PCB was informed about the resignation of Subhan in its meeting in Lahore on Friday (November 22), a PCB press release said. However, the press release didn’t mention the reason behind Subhan’s resignation.
However, the credible sources assert that Subhan was asked by PCB either to resign forthwith or face the music. He chose to resign. The myth has been broken and disintegration of PCB Mafia XI has begun as the source also maintains that some more heads could be rolled in coming days.
Subhan had joined the Board as computer operator and reached to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) in a span of over 25 years. Though it was not unusual to rise in an organization after working so long yet Subhan’s promotion in the Board was not because of his extraordinary performance but only because of his quality of backbiting and licking the boots of his boss, an art in which he had mastered. He was venomous and ruined career of some brilliant officials in PCB who wished to contribute.
We heard reports that Subhan was annoyed by the professional working of British born Wasim Khan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Board, and was on annual leave. After the expiry of his leave he kept on taking extension after extension and was not attending his office.
He was hoping that some unseen forces would save him. But nobody came to his rescue and in a last desperate attempt to save his job Subhan went to seek help of former chairman of PCB Shaharyar Khan, who is seriously ill as his peace maker is not working properly, but his attendants didn’t allow.
The former chairman had earlier helped Subhan and saved him from FIA inquiry regarding his irregularities in awarding various contracts as COO of the Board.
According to reports the FIA had sent some documents against Subhan for forensic tests in Islamabad where former chairman of PCB managed it to stop.
This is a serious case and through ScoreLine I demand of NAB to reopen the case and investigate as how much assets Subhan made during his time in PCB.
