India likely to forgo Asia Cup hosting

Karachi: To avoid extending an invitation to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has pondered to give up the hosting of the event, scheduled to be held in India, next year.

The Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI, held in New Delhi on Monday, also decided to snub Pakistan from the future tour programme, for India, including the new international Test and ODI leagues, agreed in principle by ICC members in October this year.

“The FTP has been decided with no engagement with Pakistan in the next four years, apart from the ICC events”, said a source privy to the SGM.

The ICC Board earlier approved a nine-team Test league and a 13-team ODI league, due to start in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The source added that the BCCI was also ready to forgo hosting the Asia Cup in 2018 to avoid playing the neighbouring country, Pakistan.

“It is highly unlikely for India to host the upcoming Asia Cup and it will be officially conveyed to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the upcoming meeting”, the source said

The ACC meeting is scheduled to be held in Dubai next week.
