KARACHI: Ace batsman of the first-class outfit, Central Punjab, Azhar Ali has admitted that his region was lucky to have a larger pool of players as compare to other competing teams in the premier first-class tournament, Quaid-e-Azam trophy.
Addressing the media conference after the second day’s play of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy final, against Northern, at the National stadium in Karachi on Saturday, Azhar Ali said the first season, under the revamped structure, will surely be thoroughly reviewed by the relevant quarters before the next season.
“I think some teams have a larger pool of players as compare to others. Some outfits are formidable for shorter formats but otherwise in four-day games. Central Punjab are lucky to have a larger pool of players capable of performing in all formats”, Azhar Ali said.
“There are players in other teams who probably lagged behind the requirement of the four-day format. I am sure these aspects will be looked into by the PCB and selectors in the future”, Azhar Ali, the National Test captain, added.
Azhar Ali was of the opinion that he witnessed a few young players during this season who could represent Pakistan in the future.
Azhar Ali, the centurion along with Umar Akmal in Central Punjab’s first innings, declined to talk at length about Bangladesh’s refusal to tour Pakistan for test series and only said that the Pakistan Cricket Board had already made the point clear in this regard.
