KARACHI: The legendary Pakistan cricketer, Hanif Mohammad, who passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness, might get an honour from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). It has been learnt that there were consultations within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about renaming the international cricket stadium in Karachi – the National Stadium – after the legendary late cricketer. “Renaming the National stadium Karachi after Hanif Mohammad would surely be considered. This will be a deserving tribute to one of the best cricketers in history of the game”, a source said
Hanif Mohammad is regarded as country’s greatest batsman who played 55 test matches for Pakistan between 1952 and 1969.
Hanif Mohammad scored 3915 runs with 12 centuries at an average of 43.98.
On a question, the source said that renaming the Gaddafi Stadium after late philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi had not been approved by the PCB chairman, Shaharyar Khan as yet. “The Board of governors discussed the proposal however it has not been approved by the chairman so far”, the source added
The head of the PCB executive committee, Najam Sethi earlier proposed the idea of renaming the Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium after Abdul Sattar Edhi.
The most celebrated philanthropist of the country passed away on July 8th, this year.
