Was the name “Kashmir” one of the reasons behind the decision not to have a sixth team in the Pakistan Super League in the next edition?
PCB and PSL chairman Najam Sethi did their best to increase earnings from PSL by adding a sixth team, but the first five franchise-owners derailed the plan.
According to reliable sources, the franchise owners insisted that no team can be added as per the agreement with them.
Sethi tried his best to convince them but they said it would hurt their earnings.
One franchise owner, requesting anonymity, said the PCB was also afraid that the name of Kashmir would lead to problems with the BCCI, which the PCB could not afford.
Sethi tweeted on April 22 that he wanted a sixth team in PSL named Kashmir but later PCB officials opposed the idea.
Sources said the ICC could not interfere in members’ domestic events but the PCB officials did not want to anger BCCI.
The BCCI secretary had showed his concern when Shahid Afridi as the T20 captain of Pakistan praised the Kashmiri people for their support during Pakistan matches in World T20.
