Karachi: The Asia Cup cricket tournament, scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan in September this year, is most likely to be shifted to Sri Lanka upon Pakistan’s request.
An official of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed this correspondent that in the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on Monday the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani floated the idea to swap the hosting rights of this year’s Asia Cup with Sri Lanka who’s turn is to stage the next marquee event in 2022.
“We are ready to take the PCB’s offer however there are some pending negotiations with the Sri Lanka government and the health department before making an official announcement in this regard”, the SLC official said.
“We are hopeful to reach the final decision before the next ACC meeting”, the official added.
The ACC had announced that a final decision on the holding of the Asia Cup would be taken soon.
