KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) implemented the revamped domestic structure without departmental teams however the expenditure or other factors prompted the PCB to consider the resumption of departmental outfits in the scheme of things.
The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim Khan said that a separate tournament, amongst departmental teams, is being deliberated upon however multiple sources in prominent departments said that the PCB, in the first phase of the scheme, urged departments to invest in the revamped structure however the demand was “unrealistic” hence did not get materialised.
“The amount was about the double of what we used to spend on our teams in a year therefore it was impossible for departments to pour in the money”, sources said.
“They asked a department to pump in about Rs 200 to Rs 300 million in a year”, sources added on a question.
The departmental sources were of the opinion that the decision to scrap the previous structure was “taken in haste without looking into the possible fall back”.
“Regional system works in welfare states where Governments lends financial support to its citizen. Cricketers’ survival without permanent jobs is unlikely in Pakistan”, sources, part of a few renowned departments, concluded.
