Karachi: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wasim Khan has revealed that a Pakistani player – which he didn’t name – was approached in the Qatar T10 league however the information was promptly relayed to the relevant quarters in the International Cricket Council (ICC).
“A Pakistani player passed on the information, of a corrupt approach, to the PCB anti-corruption unit official who conveyed it to his counterparts in the ICC”, Wasim Khan said while addressing to the press in Karachi on Wednesday.
The ICC has opened up an inquiry into the Qatar 10 league after observing substantial changes to both team ownership and the organisers just days prior to the event.
The ICC, furthermore, applied additional investigative resource and intercepted a number of known corruptors both in Qatar and globally and disrupted planned corrupt activity at the event.
On a question, Wasim Khan admitted that PCB’s policy regarding NOCs, for T10 events, is unclear.
“Yes, the policy of the board in this regard is inconsistent which needs a thorough review in due course of time”, the CEO said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board refused NOC, to players, for the T10 league in the UAE however allowed its players to participate in the following T10 event in Qatar.
Meanwhile, a source privy to the development, has shared to this correspondent that a former Pakistan cricketer, involved in the Qatar T10, is being investigated for his possible role in the corrupt approaches in the said event.
This is pertinent to recall that a former Pakistan Test batsman, Mansoor Akhtar has recently been questioned by the ICC anti-corruption unit after Umar Akmal accused him of making a corrupt approach during the T20 tournament in Canada earlier this year.
