Karachi: Iqbal Qasim has formally been appointed as the head of the regional cricket academy in Karachi. The former left-arm spinner received the notification, for his appointment, on Monday.
“Yes, I have received the letter of appointment and will join the Karachi academy from November 1st under a contract on one year”, Iqbal Qasim confirmed to this correspondent.
Iqbal Qasim, the former chief selector and the member of Board of governors, is regarded as a good cricket administrator.
The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi along with the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Mudassar Nazar recently interviewed Iqbal Qasim, Salim Jaffer and Azam Khan for the post of Karachi academy’s director.
Regarding his plans for the Karachi academy, Iqbal Qasim said he will soon visit Lahore to meet the NCA director to discuss the future course of action.
“I will soon travel to Lahore to meet NCA director to discuss future strategy”, Iqbal Qasim said.
“The NCA is the hub and policies are delegated from there. I will of course share my recommendations but firstly will listen to the NCA director”, Iqbal Qasim concluded.
Iqbal Qasim, 64, played 50 Tests and 15 ODIs for Pakistan between 1976 and 1988.
