SJAS confers gold medal on Afridi

Karachi: At an impressive ceremony here on Saturday, the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) conferred gold medal on former Pakistan captain Shahid Khan Afridi for his outstanding services on the cricket filed during his international career.

Addressing the audience Shahid Afridi lauded the SJAS for it’s efforts to promote sports and for the betterment of the sports journalists’ community in the province.

The former captain also assured his unconditional support to the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh.

Shahid Afridi spelled out his plan for the betterment of cricket in Sindh and said that he sought a piece of land from the provincial government however his plea had not been entertained as yet.

“I requested the Sindh Government for a piece of land only to build a state of the art cricket academy in Karachi however my plea has not been fulfilled as yet despite several assurances”, Shahid Afridi said

“There is a lot of talent in Sindh however it gets wasted due to lack of proper facilities.

I am available to play my due part.”, Shahid Afridi added.

He went on to say that the current state of the province would have been a lot better if Benazir Bhutto was alive.

Shahid Afridi also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to utilise the rich experience of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq after their retirement.

Patrons of SJAS Dr Junaid Ali Shah and Dr Farhan Essa paid rich tribute to Shahid Afridi for his outstanding services for the country.

The patrons also wished Afridi well for his future endeavours.
